Introduction to MIRCED 2013
Mechatronics, Instrumentation, Robotic and Control Exhibition Day or better known as MIRCED, is a first ever platform for the final year students of SEI and SEM programs to showcase their research projects. SEI and SEM are two programs administered by the Engineering Department of Control and Instrumentation (CIED) as well as the Department of Mechatronics and Robotics (MER). Both programs focus on engineering in control, robotics, instrumentation and mechatronics.
Throughout the years, numerous research outcomes from these students were internationally and nationally presented in well known exhibitions and/or competitions. These include MTE, INATEX, GENEVA, ITEX, PECIPTA and of course in ROBOCON , whereby our students are the reigning champion for this coveted title. In accordance to this, the CIED and MER department have mutually proposed a platform for our students to provide them with the opportunity to showcase their hard-earned research outcomes, hence replacing our conventional PSM seminar.
Finally, it is proud to say that MIRCED is a day of appreciation and a well-earned recognition to our final year (SEI and SEM) students for their efforts in their projects. With the participation from external panels, which include well-known industrial companies such as Celestica, Agilent and Panasonic , students will have a first-hand exposure of the "dos" and "don'ts" of the industry. This will induce an entrepreneurial culture among students and researchers. At the same time, the exhibition will be an inspiration to the students to extend their limited research experience to a higher level, if they ultimately wish to. Either way, through the exhibition, the students will have a rare opportunity to harness their talents which can be implemented during their working life.
Objectives
The main objectives of MIRCED is to provide opportunities to final year students exhibit their research, create awareness among the students about the activities of research and development at the undergraduate and post graduate in FKE, unlock the collaboration between industry and researchers, cultivating entrepreneurship by providing exposure to the needs of business and industry among the members of technology, publish student work through the book chapter for the production of research involved, provide exposure to potential students for further studies to UTM as students from matriculation and secondary schools.
